Job Description

The Penobscot Company General Contractor currently has an opening for an Assistant Project Manager for our commercial construction projects ranging from $500,000 to $15M.  These projects vary in scope and include both new construction and renovation and are located within the state of Maine. This is a permanent, full-time position.


Responsibilities

  • Overall Project Management support to include:
  • RFI’s, submittals, preparing schedules, change orders
  • Attending construction meetings
  • Quality control
  • Interaction with subcontractors, suppliers, design professionals
  • Other duties as directed by PM and/or management team

 

Required Qualifications/Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Engineering or similar
  • 1-3 years’ experience within the construction field in project management or similar
  • Ability to negotiate with subcontractors and suppliers
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Ability to problem solve
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, Scheduling software and knowledge of Procore
  • Knowledge and understanding of construction methods, materials, requisitions, changes and sequences
  • Knowledge of industry safety standards

Job Description

The Penobscot Company, based in Rockport, Maine is a general contracting company with 50 years of experience in commercial and residential building construction.  We take pride in building strong relationships with our clients, design professionals, subcontractors and suppliers and in the quality workmanship of our talented and dedicated employees.  We are seeking an experienced COMMERCIAL CONSTRUCTION SUPERINTENDENT to join our team.  This is a full-time, permanent position.

 

Job Overview

The Penobscot Company Job Superintendent is responsible for oversight and management of all job site activities, with direct supervision of all workers on site.  Coordinates work of all subcontractors while ensuring a safe, professional and efficient job and delivering a quality project on time and within budget.

 

Responsibilities

 

  • Set up and maintain an organized job site
  • Develop and proactively manage schedules/look-aheads to ensure activities take place on or ahead of schedule dates
  • Provide overall project site coordination and supervision of day-to-day activities
  • Assemble required site inventories and materials; order materials and maintain all on-site receipts for submittal to office
  • Acquire and manage all building permits and schedule inspections as necessary
  • Manage on-site personnel to ensure completion of project on schedule and within budget
  • Participate in pre-construction, progress and other required meetings
  • Prepare and maintain paperwork including field reports, daily logs, safety inspection reports, schedule updates, look-ahead schedules
  • Ensure strict adherence to jobsite safety
  • Ensure quality control on all aspects of project
  • Develop and maintain successful relationships with clients, design professionals, subcontractors and other team members

 

 

Qualifications

 

  • 8-10 years of commercial construction experience with a minimum of five years in a supervisory role
  • Management experience in projects up to $15M
  • Five years’ experience in or around a variety of trades
  • Demonstrated supervisory skills and ability to identify and promptly address issues that impact performance (be a proactive problem solver)
  • Proven track records of managing people and leading a team effectively
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office.  Procore experience a plus
  • Ability to work effectively in a collaborative team environment and to adjust to changes in priorities and work plans
  • Strong verbal and written communication and organizational skills
  • Ability to adhere to strict deadlines
  • Ability to work under pressure to meet deadlines

  • Requisitioning and invoicing
  • Negotiating change orders
  • Work closely with project Superintendent
  • Ensures job progress runs according to schedule
  • Ensures supplies and materials are ordered and on-site when needed
  • Ensures sufficient personnel are scheduled
  • Works closely with management, owners and design teams
  • Ensures project is on time and on budget
  • Regularly visits jobsite and attends construction meetings

 

Qualifications

  • MINIMUM OF 10 YEARS COMMERCIAL CONSTRUCTION EXPERIENCE
  • Proven ability to manage projects from start-up to finish effectively and efficiently
  • Possess strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Working knowledge of computer software for job costing and scheduling.  PROCORE is a plus
  • Degree in Project Management or similar field or equivalent on-the-job experience a must
  • Construction field experience a plus

The Penobscot Company General Contractors is seeking an experienced Construction Safety Manager.  Our commercial construction projects vary in scope and include new construction and renovation and range from $500,000 to $15M.  This is a permanent, full-time position.

 

Job Description

The Penobscot Company takes safety seriously and we require all employees and subcontractors to adhere to strict safety practices.  To that end, we are seeking an experienced Safety Manager who can evaluate and implement safety protocols, organize safety training for employees and subcontractors, work closely with the onsite project management team to identify and avoid safety risks, conduct job site walks to ensure proper safety protocols are in place, and report problems to management.

 

Responsibilities

 

  • Conduct inspections of jobsites by actively observing  and providing feedback on work being performed by all team members and subcontractors as well as tools and equipment in use to eliminate hazards and to identify at-risk behavior and safety issues and help ensure corrective actions be taken
  • Assist with developing, conducting, and documenting the jobsite safety orientations for all new team members, subcontractors and other appropriate vendors, visitors, etc.
  • Establish emergency planning with project management, including identifying and arranging local emergency health care services, identifying warning signals, evacuation assembly point, and escape routes
  • Develop and set up systems to insure proper handling of all Hazardous Material including proper use, storage, shipment, spill control and cleanup, and disposal.
  • Ensure compliance with all safety or environmental requirements per state and federal regulations

 

 

Qualifications/Requirements

 

  • Bachelor Degree in Occupational Health or related field preferred – Associates Degree may be considered
  • Five years or more experience in workplace safety in the construction industry 
  • Good interpersonal, communications and organizational skills are essential
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office
  • CSP, CHST, OHST, STS certification a plus
