The Penobscot Company (TPC) was founded in 1970 on the values of honesty, safety, integrity, quality, innovation, an old-school work ethic, and a deep caring for our community. With five decades of delivering construction projects, these values and commitments have always been and remain the bedrock of the company, leading TPC to long-lasting customer relationships.

Reflecting on 50 Years:
a Message from Founder and President Dave Nazaroff

When I started out on this journey, I never imagined I would be in a position to sit back and reflect on 50 years of being in business. At that time, I was simply focused on completing my first job of re-siding a house on schedule and making a few dollars to put in my pocket. I never thought the company would grow and evolve into what it is today.  I have spent a majority of my life working with valued clients and providing a service to help shape the building landscape across the state. It has always been a passion of mine to use the company’s services as a vehicle to provide buildings that improve communities and people’s everyday lives. I am someone who’s energy is derived from adventure and I viewed each new construction project as a new adventure.  When I trace the company’s history back to the beginning, I realize that whether it was completing my first project, restoring a light house 26 miles off the coast, or building a research facility; the company’s success can be attributed to the honesty, integrity, innovation, and the old school work ethic we bring with us to every job.

As the 50 year mark approached, I knew it was time to secure additional leadership to help shepherd the company into the next 50 years and beyond. I am very pleased to announce that Jon DiCentes and Clay Maker joined the company at the beginning of 2020. They bring with them extensive industry experience, a vision for the future, and new energy to propel this company forward. We all share the same passion for growing people and constructing buildings that make a difference, while sharing the same set of values that have been the bedrock of this company since its inception. With our new leadership team in place, I am very excited to see what the next 50 years has in store for The Penobscot Company. The adventure continues.

Dave Nazaroff

Dave founded The Penobscot Company in 1970, and has been at the helm ever since. He has led the company through every project with integrity and a commitment to hard work, problem solving, and doing it right the first time.


Jon has been in leadership positions for some of the highest profile construction jobs completed in the State of Maine over the past decade. From hospitals, office buildings, event centers, and correctional facilities; Jon has managed over $2 Billion dollars worth of construction in his 24 year career. Jon brings out-of-the-box problem solving to deliver projects on time and on budget.


Clay has worked in a variety of markets; but has specialized in the development and construction of healthcare facilities, delivering over 500,000 square feet of healthcare facilities in his career. Clay has delivered projects via the typical Design-Bid-Build process, as well as the alternative Design-Build and Integrated Project Delivery methodologies.
